Veterinary Externships
Our full-service, modern hospital is AAHA accredited and implements Fear-free philosophies. You will be able to advance your skills with access to our inventory of the latest in diagnostic and surgical equipment.
Our hospital is located in Fairfax Station, VA, and has been serving the community since 1996. We are passionate about providing care to companion animals and rescue/shelter animals as well as being a resource for reliable education.
Veterinary Student Externships
We want our doctors to focus on medicine, so we have highly trained veterinary assistants who are assigned daily to each doctor and licensed veterinary technicians to help support patient care. Working with multiple veterinarians will give you the chance to immerse yourself in as many cases as possible while experiencing different teaching styles. We perform surgeries every weekday, to include client-owned pets and pets from local rescue groups, so there is always a variety of species, conditions, and diagnoses to be seen.
You will be shadowing a veterinarian during their scheduled appointments, allowing you to participate in all aspects of assessment, the diagnostic process, and clinical write-up. Be prepared to “live a day” in the life of a busy general practitioner. One of the benefits of an externship at Crosspointe Animal Hospital is having the use of our technology. Ultrasound equipment, digital radiography (including dental), in-house laboratory equipment (CBC, chemistry, and electrolyte units), tonopens, surgical laser, therapeutic cold laser, and endoscopy all help to provide you with a well-rounded externship experience. We encourage you to let us know of your particular fields of interest so we can do our best to fit those into your time with us.
Licensed Veterinary Technician Student Externship
We have had the pleasure of seeing some of our staff start in this field with no experience and go on to become exceptional licensed veterinary technicians. With that in mind, we enjoy helping others through their journey. We offer externships to 2nd-year students to help them strengthen their skill set. You will have an LVT or doctor assigned to you as your mentor. With their guidance, you will assist with routine and emergency appointments as well as surgeries.
