Pet Boarding FAQs from Your Fairfax Veterinarian
When it’s time for vacation, you need the comfort of knowing your pet is well cared for. For top quality, AAHA-accredited pet boarding, Crosspointe Animal Hospital is the superlative option in all of Fairfax Station, Springfield, and Woodbridge.
Why Pet Boarding Versus Other Pet Sitting Options?
As long as you choose a top-quality boarding facility, your pet will get cared for by pros. It may seem appealing to leave your pet with a well-meaning relative or friend, but do they have the experience and knowledge needed to take care of your pet? Keep in mind, too, that their normal routines do not include your pet. Despite good intentions, they are simply not you.
What Are the Advantages of Boarding?
Are you traveling by car? Taking a plane? Avoid the tedium of a long car ride or the terror of flying on a plane for your pet. Instead, your pet will be well-cared for and safe under the trained eyes of our staff. He or she will also be right here in our animal hospital should there be a need for a veterinarian for specialized care or treatment.
What Should I Look for in a Boarding Facility?
You should always pay a visit to a facility before making a reservation. In fact, it’s a good idea to bring your pet along, too. We encourage a “Happy Visit” to our boarding facility, especially if your pet is generally fearful.
These are the things you should inspect on your visit:
- Is it sparkly clean?
- Does it smell clean?
- Are there displeasing odors?
- Does the staff zero in on your pet? Are they friendly to you, too?
- What about outdoor areas for walking or playing?
- Are the other pets generally calm?
- Do you get a good overall feeling?
What About Pet Accommodations?
The last thing you want is for your pet to be cooped up in a single kennel or cage the whole time he or she is there. Comfort is key and at our pet boarding facility. That means a pleasant ambient temperature of 72 degrees. For dogs, you can choose a kennel with or without an outdoor run. Each dog is walked 3 times a day with 2 additional walks as an option. We also offer in-home care, mainly for cats.
How About Diet?
We supply a healthy and bland diet of beef and rice but will be glad to serve your pet’s regular diet if you choose. We find the bland diet keeps nervous stomachs in check. However, with our animal hospital here on premise, any digestive problems will be dealt with promptly.
What Do I Need to Make a Reservation?
We require the following documentation to show your pet is properly protected:
- Record of current vaccinations
- Proof of distemper vaccination
- Proof of current rabies vaccine
- Results from annual stool check
- Proof of current Bordetella vaccination
If your pet needs any of these vaccinations, our veterinarian can administer them during check-in.
